Join Border Free Bees for a Pollinator Picnic with Doors Open Richmond
Pack a picnic and enjoy the 'buzz' in the park with an afternoon of free activities, Saturday, June 2.
Building on the success of the first pollinator pasture installed within Bridgeport Industrial Park adjacent Bath Slough, the City of Richmond and ECU's Border Free Bees, have reengaged to build a second pollinator meadow within Terra Nova Rural Park.
And, as part of the 11th annual Doors Open Richmond, we'll be celebrating with an outdoor Pollinator Picnic on Saturday, June 2, (access the event off of River Road). Pack a picnic and enjoy the ‘buzz’ in the park, with an afternoon of free activities and entertainment that will include guided tours, demonstrations of our partner’s citizen science bee app, exhibitor booths and opportunities to learn about the pollinator meadow and native pollinators from experts and City of Richmond staff.
The
planting design features a
breadth of wildflowers and
fescues designed to attract
native pollinators while
discouraging use by migrating
snow geese. The event is intended to not only showcase
the pollinator pasture project
and its community partners, but
more importantly, educate and
inspire others to help rebuild
the native pollinator
population.
