PILING/UPON is a research project centering on printmaking, collaboration, and material experimentation. Starting in the summer of 2023, four participating artists have actively gathered and printed discarded and trashed objects - leftovers from the many creative activities taking place on the campus of Emily Carr University. The resulting exhibition draws inspiration from scientific methods of capturing data and actively aims to legitimatize printmaking as a visual tool to record time and experiences. The “piling” represents the accumulation of physical debris while hinting at the [compressed] piles hidden beneath the ground.
This exhibition is the culmination of a SSHRC Institutional Grant.
