Contact
Sharon Bayly | sbayly@ecuad.caEmily Carr Chorus is a welcoming space, open to all voices and all levels of experience. We meet every Monday from 4:30-6:00pm in the Student Union room. We start with a gentle, physical and vocal warm up, then move into learning new songs and revisiting songs we've already learned, and end the session with soothing vocal toning or chanting….like a soft sound bath…good for the soul…good for the nervous system. Snacks and tea are provided.
Science has proven that singing together has beneficial health outcomes. Singing in harmony with other voices is a powerful and joyful way to find connection and to feel in resonance with one another. Singing opens and enhances our lungs' capacity. Singing relieves stress and tension. Singing improves memory. Singing allows us to express ourselves and boost our confidence. Singing is good for us!
Emily Carr Chorus is led by Sharon Bayly, a singer / song leader and shop technician in the 4th floor Stretchers + Surfaces wood shop at Emily Carr.
Sharon Bayly has been singing in choirs from a young age, and since 2017 she’s worked with various community choirs as a song leader: Local Vocals (dir. Anna Baignoche) / Accapellaboratory (dir. Patti Powell) / Rhythm’n’Roots (dir. Karla Mundy). Sharon initiated Singing in the Stairwell at Emily Carr in 2018 and then joined forces with Jane Slemon and Joy Onj in 2022 to co-lead Emily Sings in the Stairwell. She is excited to lead Emily Carr Chorus and hopes it will serve to lift up our voices and our spirits!
No previous singing experience necessary…if you can talk, you can sing! So come out and humm, moan, drone, croon, trill, purr, whisper and warble with us!
