As part of the Capture Photography Festival, check out Emily Carr student Carolina de la Cajiga's solo exhibit, City in Flux: Work in Progress, at Ferry Building Gallery in West Vancouver. Her collection is a playful take on the ongoing development in the city of Vancouver. With a creative eye and a camera, de la Cajiga creates alternate Vancouvers in her images, exaggerating conventions of urban growth in striking and whimsical ways. These dreamy, surreal cityscapes put Vancouver's state of flux at the focus, causing audiences to wonder what it is we are building, and what we are doing to nurture the spaces we already have.
At the gallery opening, she will launch a companion book on the subject. 25% of the sale will be donated to increase the funding of the Entrance Scholarship at Emily Carr University that De la Cajiga and her husband support.
Complementing the altered photographs shown at the Ferry Building Gallery, De la Cajiga is showing a series of paintings based on photographs she took during the construction of the Telus Gardens building on Georgia Street. You will see these artworks at the gallery when attending any event at the The Annex, Vancouver Civic Theatres, until the end of June 2018.
