Things Resounding Things is a new installation by John Brennan and a continuation of his study on the agency and memory of musical instruments and other sounding objects

A kick drum, a snare drum and a floor tom.

An electric acoustic guitar.

A concert bass drum.

A modified oil drum.

Three cymbals.

A piano harp.

A zither.

A gong.

Through the use of transducers, pickups, solenoids and software, arranged instruments interact with each other and with the room in sonorous conversation and monologue.

There are no performers or loudspeakers, but instead resonances, feedback and sonic impressions that invite one to listen for sounds that might no longer be. How far can these sounds reach? How closely can one listen?

This project was supported by the BC Arts Council and the Basically Good Media Lab at Emily Carr University. Thanks to Maria Lantin and Sean Arden. Special thanks to Khan Lee for his support, generosity, advice and skills.
