Dementia Lab Conference
Dementia Lab 2021 is the 5th installment of the Dementia Lab Conference. This year’s event is a virtual conference, hosted by the Health Design Lab at ECU.
Cost
$10-$55, with a pay-what-you-can option
The Dementia Lab 2021 conference will highlight issues and innovations surrounding ability and disability, reflecting on how design and research efforts can lead the way in uncovering, supporting and enhancing the abilities of people with dementia and the community within which they live by involving them in the conversation. This is an inclusive multidisciplinary conversation, open to students, designers, artists, researchers, health professionals, carers, and people living with dementia.
Conference presentations, discussions, workshops will focus on the areas of:
- Engagement: Ethics of inclusion and shifting the culture of care to one focused on both personal independence and reconnecting with the community
- Empowerment: New ways of designing with/for those living with dementia, embracing challenges and tackling stigma to break negative stereotypes and preconceived opinions
- Identity: Approaches to countering social isolation, retaining personhood/dignity and fostering empathy
The Dementia Lab Conference was founded by our partners at the Luca School of Arts.
The conference is supported by Vancouver Coastal Health, Alzheimer BC, and The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
