Information + Privacy
Freedom of Information + Protection of Privacy
As a public body, Emily Carr University of Art + Design is governed by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). FIPPA has two main purposes, which include:
- Freedom of Information: to make public bodies more open and accountable by providing the public with a legislated right of access to records; and
- Protection of Privacy: to protect personal privacy by prohibiting the unauthorized collection, use or disclosure of personal information by public bodies.
FIPPA therefore provides the public with a venue through which to make requests for information/records and also sets out the responsibilities of the University to protect individuals’ personal information. Anyone can make a request for records that Emily Carr has in its custody or under its control.
