When you successfully complete a micro-credential course, you earn a digital Skills Badge. This badge can be shared on social media (like LinkedIn) to showcase your skills to employers, setting you apart from the crowd.

Badges are issued through Accredible, a full service digital credentialing solution.

All personal information is collected by Emily Carr University of Art and Design (ECU) under the authority of Section 26(c) of the British Columbia Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c.165. For Continuing Studies courses that lead to digital credentials, ECU will share your name, email address and student ID number with Accredible after successfully completing the course. Emily Carr University of Art and Design (ECU) Teen Program Information and Consents

Please read each statement carefully. To successfully complete your registration application and attend the program, you must consent to the following:

1. Acknowledgement and Acceptance of Risk

I have reviewed the description of the ECU teen program I am registering for and understand what sorts of activities are involved in the program. I acknowledge that there are risks associated with participation in the program related but not limited to: interactions with other program participants, instructors or other individuals in an open public institutional setting; exposure to challenging topics, imagery, and subject matter; handling of materials and equipment used in studio and production spaces; off-site activities involving walking or public transportation; slipping and falling; theft or damage to belongings left unattended; and negligence of other program participants, staff, or the public.

2. Code of Conduct

While creative, artistic and intellectual expression is encouraged and promoted, it is also expected that we conduct ourselves in a manner that is safe and respectful of our Emily Carr community. This code of conduct requires all students, parent/guardians of students, instructors, guests and employees to:

Refrain from words, actions and behaviors that demonstrate disrespect for other students, instructors, guests and employees, or the family members of such individuals.
Respect other students, instructors, guests and employees’ right to privacy and the confidentiality of their personal information.
Act with honesty and integrity when dealing with assets belonging to the property, monies, equipment and any other assets belonging to ECU.
Act safely and respectfully for the duration of the program, to ensure a positive experience for all.
Abide by the laws of Canada and British Columbia.
Treat students, instructors, guests and employees fairly, knowing that ECU does not tolerate unlawful discrimination on the basis of Indigenous identity, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or age of that person or class of persons, or any other grounds enumerated in the British Columbia Human Rights Code.
The use of alcohol, nonprescription drugs, inappropriate behaviour and offensive language are prohibited.

ECU reserves the right to take action regarding any breach of the Code of Conduct, including but not limited to a non-refundable removal from the program.

3. Medical Authorization

In the event of an accident, injury or illness involving the student, and immediate contact with the student’s guardian(s) cannot be made, I hereby authorize and grant permission to ECU staff and program partner staff to secure proper medical treatment and authorize on the student’s behalf all procedures, including, without limitation, admission to an emergency unit, hospital and treatment therein, ordering x‐rays, tests or treatment, injections, anesthesia and/or surgery, as deemed necessary by the attending medical professional(s). I agree not to hold ECU and its program partners responsible for any costs or injury arising out of an emergency situation.

4. Library Usage

As part of the program, ECU will allow me to borrow items from the ECU Library. I agree to treat all borrowed items with care, and return them on or before the due date. If I don’t, I understand that ECU will issue me a fine, and if I don’t pay the fine, I may not be allowed to register in any other courses or programs at ECU.

5. Software + Application Disclaimers

Our teen programs may include the use a variety of commercially available, digital educational technologies, including internet-based technologies, cloud services and social media (which is referred to here, collectively, as “Software”).

Any use of Software is designed as part of the program and enhances the educational experience.

ECU will advise you which Software, if any, is required and which is optional for the program you are registering for.

Disclaimer: ECU has reviewed the Software for appropriateness as an educational technology, but it cannot vouch for the technological, business and privacy practices of the Software providers.

Before using the Software, the parent/guardian must review the Software, and the terms of service, and the privacy policy. You are welcome to contact us at teens@ecuad.ca if you have any further questions about the use of Software for this program.

It is important for you to understand the following:

1. Terms of Service. To use the Software, the parent/guardian and/or the student may need to create an account with the Software provider, and may be required to agree to the Software Provider’s terms of service. The Software may be available for free, for immediate purchase, or on a “free trial” basis (which may require additional steps to avoid being charged at the end of the trial).

It is your responsibility to understand and abide by the terms of service, and to pay any amounts that may be owing to the Software provider.

ECU is not a party to the agreement between you and the Software provider, and bears no responsibility for the performance of the Software, the conduct of the Software provider, nor any amounts you may owe to the Software provider.

2. Privacy Policy. Please note that some of the IT applications used in ECU teen programs may store and replicate your personal information outside of Canada for the purposes of logging in and authenticating your account.

When you use Microsoft 365, you consent to disclose your first name, last name, ECU email address, ECU ID, and class and group enrollment (where applicable) to Microsoft Corporation, which will be stored and replicated outside of Canada.

When you use Adobe Creative Cloud, you consent to the disclosure of your first name, last name, and ECU email address to Adobe Inc., which will be stored outside of Canada.

ECU is committed to ensuring the privacy and security of your personal information in both applications. If you would like more information about the controls we have in place to protect your privacy, please contact ECU’s Privacy Office privacy@ecuad.ca.

6. Consent to the Use of Images or Recordings

Please note, you are given the option to consent, or not to consent to the following statements.

During the program, I may produce artwork(s), and I may be included in photos, audio-recordings and video-recordings of our activities, taken by ECU staff.

By choosing to consent (see below), I consent to ECU using my artwork, and photos and videos that include me, in ECU catalogues, exhibitions, publications, motion picture and/or television productions, digital media (including social media and websites) and/or advertising that promote ECU, this program, and other ECU programs. In doing so, ECU may crop, alter or modify images of me and combine such images with other images, text, audio recordings and graphics.

Any questions about videotaping, photographing and audiotaping should be directed to ECU Communications at communications@ecuad.ca.

7. Off-site Activities Notice and Consent

The program you are enrolling your child in may include off-site activities. Off-site activities are designed as a part of the program and enhance the educational experience. Examples include visits to local galleries, professional studios, and public art sites.

If there are off-site activities planned for your program, ECU will send you advance notice to the email address you provide, with the location, timing, and transportation arrangements (walking or public transportation). Off-site activities will have two adult chaperones.

Transportation will be on public transit or within walking distance of ECU campus. If a field trip concludes near the end of the day, students may be dismissed for home from that location with previous authorization from their parent/guardian.

Participation in these activities is optional but encouraged. Parents/guardians will be required to complete a Field Trip Waiver Form closer to the start date of the program. Students without a signed Field Trip Waiver will not be allowed to participate in these activities.

8. Travelling Home

Your child will be dismissed from the program location to return home unaccompanied. Please note, this may include being dismissed from an off-site activity.
