Sometimes I know what I’m looking for, and it’s only a matter of knowing where to dig, and when to stop. If equipped with a map of my own provenance, I’ll put on my work boots and chip away until the boss is satisfied. Otherwise the work requires some initial digging to find a way in: a series of cuts, circling the object with a fixed gaze, trying not to trip while conversing with chaos in an effort towards reason. When I fatigue with reduction I’ll simply plant a seed and feed it my love.

Patron Art and Fine Art Framing & Services are pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Graham Landin. On view are a selection of wooden sculptures, grafted cacti and a special edition series, ‘A Kiss’, cast in hydrostone of an oil on cardboard relief. Landin’s wooden sculptures are carved using a chainsaw, referencing folk art and joyfully draw from modern sculpture, architecture, and the artist’s collection of cacti.

‘A Kiss’ comprises of 6 casts, each limited to an edition of 50 and set apart by the hand dyed jute they rest in. The tableaux presents as a puzzle and depicts an arrangement of forms cut from a single plane, rearranged as the interplay of breaths in the moments surrounding a kiss.

Graham John Landin (b. 1982 – Vancouver) lives and works on agricultural land in Richmond BC, where he has facilitated workshops, performances and exhibitions. He is a founding member of Sunset Terrace, a collective studio and art gallery in Vancouver, and in 2019 was the artist in residence at the 2727 California St Residency in Berkeley, CA. He holds a BFA from Emily Carr University, where he received the Chancellors Award for Excellence in Visual Arts in 2014.
