Every other Wednesday this Fall, we select a film from the Visual Effects Society’s Top 70 Most Influential Visual Effects Films of All Time. Each screening is introduced by a member of the VES and is followed by audience discussion. Guests have so far have included VFX supervisors, animators, and one Oscar winner!
Locally produced at Sony Pictures Animation, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse offers a level of aesthetic originality rarely (if ever) seen in big-budget 3D animated features. Animating sequences “on twos,” using halftone dots, and deliberately misaligning color layers all help create the sensation of a kinetic, immersive comic book. Come enjoy some free snacks and tide yourself over until Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out in 2027.
This screening will include a reception with refreshments.
