Darlene Nairne

Technician, Ceramics

Bio

With a background in psychology, Darlene has a special interest in creative processes. Her experience in ceramics has led me to a keen interest in research into the processes of making functional ceramics, formulating glazes and firing processes.

Research Interests

In her professional practice, Darlene makes porcelain tableware and enjoys experimenting with a wide variety of decorating and forming techniques. While working in a studio gallery for many years she was able to develop work for the market in earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. She also designed work for several restaurants. She includes in her professional practice teaching a throwing class in porcelain (Shadbolt Centre for the Arts) and providing technical curriculum support at ECU. With many years of experience in her professional practice, her continuous research into ceramic processes and the inspiration received from working with students, Darlene is drawn to a future of writing and documenting for the ceramics profession. She has in the works a book on porcelain.
